Privacy Policy
The short version: Burnlist is local-first. Without an account, nothing you do in the app ever leaves your device. If you choose to create a sync account, your email address and your tasks are stored on our sync backend so your devices can share them — and nothing else is collected. No ads, no analytics, no tracking, ever.
Using Burnlist without an account
You never need an account to use Burnlist. In that mode, all of your data — tasks, boards, sketches, due dates, settings — is stored only on your device. We collect nothing, transmit nothing, and have no way to see any of it.
If you create a sync account
Burnlist Pro includes optional sync. If you sign up, we store:
- Your email address and a password hash — to identify your account and let you sign in on your other devices.
- Your task content — tasks, boards, checklists, due dates, and Apple Pencil sketches — so your devices can stay in sync.
This data is stored with Google Firebase (Authentication and Cloud Firestore), Google's app-hosting platform, in the United States. It is protected by per-user security rules: only your signed-in account can read or write your data. We use it solely to provide sync — never for advertising, profiling, or sale to anyone.
What we don't do
- No analytics or telemetry — the app contains no tracking SDKs.
- No advertising, and no sharing of data with advertisers or data brokers.
- No access to your contacts, location, photos, or anything beyond what you type or draw into the app.
On-device processing
Handwriting recognition for Apple Pencil sketches runs entirely on your device using Apple's Vision framework. Your handwriting is never sent anywhere for processing. Reminder notifications are local notifications scheduled on your device.
Purchases
Burnlist Pro is purchased through Apple's App Store. Payment is handled entirely by Apple — we never see your payment details.
Your data, your control
- Export: a full backup of your board can be exported as a JSON file at any time from the account sheet, and imported back.
- Delete your account: in the app, open the account sheet and choose Delete Account. This permanently removes your account and all synced data from our servers. Tasks stored locally on your devices remain yours.
Children
Burnlist is not directed at children under 13, and we do not knowingly collect personal information from them.
Changes
If this policy changes materially, we'll update this page and note the new effective date above.
